Governor Scott Makes History

Yesterday, Governor Scott appointed Carlos Lopez-Cantera Lieutenant Governor and made history in the process. Lopez-Cantera, a Property Appraiser in Miami-Dade, is the first Hispanic Lieutenant Governor in Florida.

Lopez-Cantera served 8 years in the Legislature, including house majority leader from 2010-2012. In 2012, Lopez-Cantera was elected as Property Appraiser for Miami-Dade.

“I picked somebody that’s going to help get our state back to work. He’s a smart guy, he’s a hard worker and he has legislative experience,” Scott said of his appointment of Lopez-Cantera.

According to the Miami Herald, “Lopez-Cantera said he was looking forward to helping Scott make good on his promise to create jobs and cut a total of $500 million in taxes this year when he and the governor will be on the statewide ballot.”

The appointment of Lopez-Cantera will be an asset for Governor Scott’s reelection efforts. Lopez-Cantera is not only filling a vacant office, but will also help close the gap with Hispanic voters, the fastest growing electorate in the state of Florida.
The future is bright for Governor Scott and his bid for reelection.
