Scott Singer for Boca Raton Mayor
Florida primaries are a little under a month away and while most eyes are keeping a close watch on the governor’s race, we at Political Hype are watching another race. The race for Boca Raton Mayor is on and showing no signs of slowing down before the August election.
Back in May, Boca Raton’s mayor, Susan Haynie, was suspended from office by Governor Rick Scott and former Deputy Mayor Scott Singer was sworn in to replace her until a special election could be held on August 28th. Singer, who has served four years on the City Council, is now running for mayor.
Throughout Singer’s four years on the City Council he has made massive strides for the residents of Boca. From keeping his pledge to keep taxes low by voting to lower the tax rate to expanding the city’s economic development efforts to create more high-paying jobs, there is no question Singer is putting Boca first and methodically planning for its future.
As a voice in city government, Singer has laid out his goals for Boca, which include but are not limited to, increasing economic development efforts to attract outstanding companies and workforce talent, keeping taxes low for families and businesses, protecting against overdevelopment, and developing long-term strategies to ensure Boca Raton continues to progress as a world-class city.
From the onset of public life, Singer has made it a goal to govern with transparency, and to say he has been successful would be an understatement. For the first time in years, Singer has been the first council member to hold regular town hall meetings with residents, working to ensure Boca Raton is a great place to live, work, and play.
While there is little doubt that Singer is more than qualified to serve as Boca’s mayor, the road to victory will not come without a little competition. Running against Interim Mayor Singer is former West Palm Beach commissioner and founder of Boca Watch a new site for the people by the people, Al Zucaro. In 2017, Zucaro ran an unsuccessful campaign for mayor against incumbent Mayor Susan Haynie.
It is important to note the race for mayor is not just bewteen Singer and Zucaro. There is a third candidate, realtor Bernard Korn, but the real showdown looks to be between Zucaro and Singer.
There is no question both Zucaro and Singer care deeply about Boca Raton and want to see it flourish. However, in every election there can only be one winner, and according to my Magic 8Ball the outlook for a Singer victory on August 28th is good.
