Is Senator Cruz legal to run?
Described as a Tea Party darling, Senator Ted Cruz is a potential contender in the 2016 presidential election.
Over the weekend Senator Cruz released his birth certificate causing questions to arise regarding his eligibility to run for president. The U.S. Constitution cites only natural born citizens are able to serve as president.
Senator Cruz was born in Canada to an American mother thus making him a U.S. citizen by birth. Since Cruz was born in Canada some are arguing he holds dual citizenship though he is vehemently denying it.
As of right now, this seems to be only the beginning of Cruz’s road to validating his American citizenship and distancing himself from his Canadian roots. I hope he has his U.S. passport at the ready, because he will need to be armed with more than just his voting record if he plans on being POTUS.
