Donald Trump’s Super Tuesday
If you are not Team Trump, Super Tuesday was a super let down. Donald Trump swept the primaries and increased his momentum in the race to the White House, while sending a resounding message to the RNC, 2016 is not about the establishment.
Voters across the South turned out in droves to participate in Super Tuesday. Over the past few weeks, the Republican field has narrowed, leaving five candidates, Senator Marco Rubio, Senator Ted Cruz, Governor John Kasich, Ben Carson, and Donald Trump. However, judging by the number of states won on Tuesday, Trump has unofficially become the nominee, even though he has not crossed the 50% delegate threshold. Nevertheless, supporters of the other Republican candidates are in a state of disbelief and confusion as to what they’ll do come November.
When Trump burst onto the campaign trail last summer, no one paid much attention. His flair for being politically incorrect and his penchant for offering knee jerk solutions to the problems America is facing were overlooked. Many people wrote Trump off and waited for his luster to wear off, but it has not. Instead, Trump has gained traction and thrown a wrench in the plans of the establishment one rally at a time.
Other candidates have been unable to shake the podium from which Trump stands and short of a miracle the Republicans may end up having the real estate mogul as their nominee. The sheer thought of Trump as the Republican nominee has sent widespread panic through the Republican party and caused many Republicans to disavow Trump and become disenfranchised marking Super Tuesday as the day the Republican party died.
The truth is, the Republican party is not dead, rather it is currently experiencing growing pains. Trump’s brash candidacy has forced the GOP into an uncomfortable position, but it’s not all Trump’s doing, it’s the disenfranchised voters. The Americans who are fed up with the political machine, a stagnant Congress, and a lame duck president.
With the next primary days away, the nomination is Donald Trump’s to lose.
