Curbelo Shows Promise for the GOP in Miami Dade
Democrats nationwide have spent the election cycle putting distance between themselves and Obama. Low approval ratings and the mismanagement of crises abroad and at home have forced Democrats to look elsewhere for support in the midterm elections, but Obama refuses to be left out of the election game.
With only a few weeks left to go Obama hasn’t given up hope that his party will allow him to be part of the midterm elections. Last week in a press conference Obama was quoted, “my name is not on the ballot, but my policies are.” When Obama said his policies were on the ballot this November, he was talking about Representative Joe Garcia.
Representative Joe Garcia, the incumbent Democratic congressman in Florida’s 26th congressional district, has developed the habit telling voters that he has been fighting the good fight against Obama during his tenure in Congress, but his voting record tells a different story. Garcia voted 87% of the time in lockstep with Democratic and tied himself closely to the President and his cronies in Congress. Obama’s stock has plummeted in the 26th district over the last two years. In 2012 he beat Romney in the district by nearly seven points. Today, after two more years of failed leadership, 50% of voters in the district disapprove of the job the President is doing. Even worse for Democrats, 47% of Miami voters refuse to cast a ballot for a candidate such as Garcia who backs Obama and his failed policies.
As the President continues to be a drag on Garcia’s campaign, Miami Dade voters are taking a second look at Republican challenger, Carlos Curbelo. A Miami Dade School Board member, Curbelo is working tirelessly to increase name recognition and show voters that he’s the right man for the job. With a four point lead over Garcia, all of Curbelo’s hard work is paying off. In a recent survey over twice as many voters viewing Curbelo as strongly favorable coupled with his commanding lead it’s no wonder he’s the favorite.
Voters have taken notice of Garcia’s support for Obama’s unpopular policies, and they’re ready to make a change. Curbelo’s strong performance on the campaign trail combined with his growing lead over Garcia puts the GOP in a great positioned to bring home a victory in Miami Dade on November 4th.
