Miami GOP Hosts Marco Rubio at Lincoln Day Dinner
Miami was the place to be on Saturday night as the Miami Republican party hosted it’s 67th Annual Lincoln Day dinner.
It came as no surprise the dinner sold out days before the event. The Lincoln Day dinner hosted over 750 attendees including RNC Committeeman, Peter Feiman, and Florida State Representative, Brian Avila, and Broward County Commissioner for District 4, Chip LaMarca to name a few.
The party played host to an all-star line up of speakers from Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, Jeff Atwater to RPOF Chairman, Blaise Ingolgia to Lieutenant Governor, Carlos Lopez-Cantera to keynote and presidential hopeful, Senator Marco Rubio. However, Rubio was not the only hopeful candidate to grace the podium on Saturday night. Lieutenant Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera took the stage and announced he would explore a run for United States Senate and would decide by July. To some, this may have been a surprise, but to most of us it was the worst kept secret in Florida politics.
The reception of the Lt. Governor’s message paled in comparison to the standing ovation Rubio received as he took the stage. A silence came over the room as Rubio spoke of his childhood and the sacrifices his parents made as they worked for the American Dream. Hitting on topics from foreign policy to immigration to talking about how he was the underdog in 2010, Rubio’s speech was well received and left the crowd inspired.
As the evening came to a close there was an air of optimism that wafted through the room. Maybe it was the fact that everyone in the room in some way identified with Rubio as the hometown kid they’d grown to love and sent to Washington in 2010 to fight for them. Or maybe it was the fact everyone had seen the turmoil America has suffered over the past seven years. Whatever it was, the Miami GOP put on one hell of an event and for a moment in time united Republicans in a time when America needs it the most.
